Gathered Rural Schools

Hello everybody!
This week in class we talked about Gathered Rural Schools (specifically about one in Asturias ) and we found it very interesting, that is why we decided to dedicate this week's post to this topic.

  • What are Gathered Rural Schools?
They are units that function as a center but in different localities; in each locality there are one or several tutors, and there are itinerant teachers. The level of these schools is of Infant Education and Primary Education, and in the same class there may be different levels, since there are children of different ages. There may be only one classroom or there may be different groupings since sometimes the number of students is enough to have more than one. These groupings give rise to heterogeneous classrooms with very different needs and dynamics from those of urban centers, so they need to use different methodologies from those centers.

  • Objectives.
- Avoid the uprooting of the students of their place of origin.
- Suppressing in addition the displacements of the students to the Center.
- Overcoming the isolation of teachers by holding biweekly or weekly coordination meetings.
- Favoring the socialization of the students, overcoming the lack of interrelation and coexistence of the students by organizing days of coexistence with the other students of the G.R.S.

  • Regarding our country...
In Spain they are present in: Aragón, Asturias, Galicia, Andalucía, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid, Valencia and Extremadura. In Catalonia, rural schools are grouped into Rural School Zones (RSZ).

And...This is all for this week, we hope this has served to inform you a little about this kind of centers. Goodbye and see you next week!
